TMT bar can be rolled from continuously cast billet, or from re-rolled scrap ingot. Both can meet a grade specification on paper, but the internal consistency of the starting material affects how predictable the finished bar's properties are.
Billet from continuous casting has a more uniform grain structure going into the rolling mill. Re-rolled ingot, depending on the scrap mix, can carry more variability heat to heat.
That variability matters most at the margins — a supplier sourcing from billet consistently is more likely to hold elongation and yield figures steady across a full production run, batch after batch.
